Papers, 1831-1933, bulk: 1860-1865.

Mostly letters written by Mary N. Williams in Roxbury, Charlestown, and Greenfield, Mass., to her husband Franklin D. Williams, a China trade merchant in Shanghai, Pinang (Malaya), and Hong Kong, 1860-65. Her letters give detailed accounts of their children, friends and relatives; her struggle to maintain the household in her husband's absence; and news and opinions of events in the Civil War. There are also some accounts of household expenses. A few items dated 1831, 1838, 1915, and 1933 are written by other family members.
